Arriving to Kalisz
How to get to Poland
International students can choose from a number of international airports to arrive at in Poland. Most probably you will arrive at Warsaw Chopin Airport (Okęcie) or Poznań-Ławica.
From Warsaw Airport to the Warsaw Central Railway Station
If you arrive at the Warsaw Chopin Airport, the best way for you to travel to Kalisz is by train. Take a train or bus from the airport terminal to Warszawa Centralna / Central Railway Station (the trip takes about 20-30 min by train, by bus about 40 min).
You can check the connection at railway connection finder site http://rozklad-pkp.pl/en (this site also finds all and any train connections in Poland). In the FROM list pick Warszawa Lot. Chopina and your TO destination is Warszawa Centralna (or you can check right away the connection from Chopin Airport all the way to Kalisz - in that case your TO destination is Kalisz). You can buy a ticket online or at the Passenger Information Center at the airport.
Look up this airport page http://www.ztm.waw.pl/?c=571&l=2. Here you can find a map of the bus routes, the stops marked on it, pictures of train and busses, etc
You can find a list of all buses departing from Chopin airport stop here: http://www.lotnisko-chopina.pl/en/public-transport.html and their timetables. The bus route you can take is f. ex 175, the bus stop is at the airport arrival terminal. Ask about the bus ticket at the Passenger Information Center, they will tell you where to get it (but the tickets are sold at the kiosks/ newsagents or ticket machines or on the bus by the driver). There are also other bus routes but 175 seems to be the most popular and the fastest.
It's a good idea to ask at the Information Center about the directions to the entrance of the train station at the terminal or to the bus stop at the terminal.
You get off the train or the bus at the Warszawa Centralna / Dw. Centralny (it's Warsaw Central Railway Station). If you are not sure when to get off - ask the bus driver or any passenger on the bus to tell you; also there should be a voice guide on the board.
From Poznań Airport to Poznań Main Station
Poznań airport is the most convenient to arrive at as Poznań is relatively close to Kalisz, the trip takes around 2.5h by train. Also, this airport is much smaller than Warsaw one so it's much easier to get around and get sorted out after the landing. Poznań is also the main city in the region of Poland you're going to study in (so called Great Poland) and it is here where majority of Faculties and administration of Adam Mickiewicz University are located. So it is not a bad idea to stay in Poznań for a couple of days to sightsee before you set on your great adventure of studying in Kalisz.
From Poznań you can travel to Kalisz by train or by bus. The Poznań bus and train stations are connected via a shopping mall. On the one side there is the raillway station lounge, on the other side of the mall are bus terminals (follow the signs). To get from the airport to the station (called Poznań Główny) you need to take 59 bus (the trip takes about 20-30 min). The timetable and the ticket information are here http://www.airport-poznan.com.pl/en/for-passengers/arrival/transfer-to-city.
After you've exited the airport arrival terminal turn right, the bus stop is about 100 meters' walk. You get off at the last bust stop - Dworzec Główny (Poznań Main Station). The railway station main lounge is on your left (go upstairs by moving stairs or in a lift), and to get to the bus station you need to follow the signs from there.
You can't buy a student discount ticket in Poland if you don't have a Polish university student ID or an International Student Identity Card (ISIC). So when you buy any bus or train ticket and you don't carry an ISIC card you must buy the full regular price tickets.
How to get to Kalisz and the Dorm
From Poznań you can arrive to Kalisz either by bus or by train. If you travel from Warsaw, the most convenient way is to travel by train. The train timetable can be found here http://rozklad-pkp.pl/en and the trip is about 2.5h from Poznań and about 4-5h from Warsaw. In the FROM list pick Poznań Główny (or Warszawa Centralna, or Warszawa Lot. Chopina, depending on your place of departure) and your TO destination is Kalisz. You can buy a ticket online or at the station.

In Kalisz the bus and train stations are close to each other (but they are not connected). After you arrive at Kalisz train station or bus station, the most convenient way to get to the Dorm and the university building is by bus or by taxi. The bus stop is on the other side of the shopping mall called Galeria Amber. After you've exited the railway station, the mall is straight ahead in front of you. When it comes to the bus terminal, walk to the left afer you got off the coach to get to the mall. Walk through the mall to the exit on the other side and the bus stop is just there. You can take 11, 12, 18 or 19 (but not 19E) bus and you will hop off just right at the Dorm and the Faculty campus. The trip is about 10 min and the bus stop you need to get off is called Legionów (it's about 3 stops from the mall). If you are not sure when to get off, ask the bus driver or any passenger on the bus to help you; there won't be a voice guide on the board. The Dorm is right on your right (a couple of meters' walk) after you got off the bus.
You can also take a taxi. It takes approximately 5 min and the fare price is around 10 PLN. There is a taxi rank at the train station, you can also call a Taxi corporation:
- Radio Taxi Zero phone: 62 196 22
- TAXI KALISZ ECHO phone: 62 196 23
- KOMANDOR RADIO TAXI phone: 62 196 28
- Taxi ZETka Kalisz phone: 62 196 22
The Dorm address is Dom Studenta, Wydział Pedagogiczno-Artystyczny, Nowy Świat 28-30, 62-800 Kalisz. The Dorm is a part of the university complex and is situated in the older section of the university building, so when you are giving the taxi driver the directions ask him to take you to "stare wejście, pod szlabanem" (the old entrance, at the barrier).
